xkbsel is a framework for defining, selecting and
indicating XKB keyboard mappings, without the need
to modify X11 distribution in any way.

Don't expect too much in this phase - the amount
of testing is minimal.

xkbsel crash-course:

- read manual pages xkbsel(5), xkbseldb(1), xkbsel(1)
  and xkbsel-aw(1) and /usr/local/etc/xkbsel.conf
  for defining keyboards

- when you change /usr/local/etc/xkbsel.conf or any
of the maps, make as root

         xkbseldb -R

- you can select and indicate the actual keyboard
  using

         xkbsel-aw

somewhere in your window manager startup scripts.
Check your window manager manual on how to remove
  decorations or dock the application.

xkbsel-aw selects the first configured keyboard
for a locale and allows to change it by clicking
on the window and selecting from the menu.

- if correctly installed (you will probably need
to shuffle files from default /usr/local),
the KDE application finder should find the
keyboard selector. Simply start it to get
  the docked selector/indicator.

- if correctly installed (you will probably need
to shuffle files from default /usr/local),
  the xkbsel_gnome_applet should install itself
to the panel after first manual start.

- you can install calls of

         xkbsel mapname
	 xkbsel --next
	 xkbsel --previous

as actions in your window manager
